Diabetes means the excessive build up of glucose in the blood. The food you eat is converted into glucose and then this is assimilated into the body. The insulin in the pancreas is supposed to metabolize the glucose and convert it into storage form. Sometimes the insulin secreted may be less or it may not be working effectively and so the sugar or glucose level in the blood increases causing diabetes.

Diabetes is essentially of two kinds:

  • Insulin dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes
  • Insulin independent diabetes or diabetes mellitus or type-2 diabetes

Juvenile diabetes can ccur at any age. This type of diabetes is due to the decreased secretion of insulin and so more unmetabolised glucose accumulates in the blood. It can be treated by administering insulin shots.

Diabetes mellitus on the other hand only occurs after the 40s and is due to insulin resistance. You would ask whether insulin too resists like we go on strikes. Actually the insulin of the body does not function appropriately. No amount of insulin shots can help metabolise the build-up of sugar. Rather it may result in hyperglycemia. What you need are medications to help bring the insulin into action and reduce diabetes. Actos and glucophage are among the most popular medications available online to treat type -2 diabetes.
